Debates With Hibba

  As COVID-19 continues its rampage across the globe, all but essential businesses were thrown off schedule: including schools. With the help of masks, vaccines, and a lockdown, schools have been able to fully reopen back in-person for the 2021 to 2022 school year, but not before finishing the remaining half of the 2019-2020 and the majority of the 2020-2021 school year virtually. With the Omicron variant making its way across America, many predict schools will be returning to virtual- which begs the question: what is better for the students? In-person or virtual? Welcome back, dear debaters! It is I, your friendly neighborhood debate-blogger, Hibba! Long time no see, right? Well, I’d love to explain my long-time hiatus, but I’ll save that for a blog update. It’s everyone’s favorite time of year: summer! It’s the season of beaches, BBQs, and books.  Hey, I like to curl up with a good book when I’m free! It’s actually really relaxing... Summer is filled with excitement. There are infinite things to do then! We go venture out into the world, and see new people and places. Others go visit their relatives for an awesome BBQ. And sometimes, we even go volunteer out in the community, saving up those credits to get into your dream college. And one out those of millions, and millions of possibilities is going to visit a museum. And that’s what inspired me for this week’s debate: should all museums be free? Yes or no? Of course, I think it’s definitely a yes. Museums are a wonderful thing, and they should be available to everyone. Be it a national, or local, museums should be free to everyone, no matter who they are. The first counter-argument you must be thinking is how in the world the museums are going to make money? ...

Imagine yourself sitting in a boring class of mathematics in middle school. Ugh. The teacher rambles on and on. She’s talking about the history of algebra. Not very interesting, to most people, because that’s how you remember it. But to me, it’s fascinating. Then, she brings up something pretty cool. She says: “Some people believe that Al-Khwarizmi is the ‘father of algebra’ is, while others believe Diophantus is. It’s debatable students.” Hi everyone! For those who are pretty young and don’t know what algebra is, and those who never really cared about math class, algebra is the part of mathematics in which letters and other general symbols are used to represent numbers and quantities in formulae and equations. When I begin to read a book at my library, I fall into a totally different world. The boy next to me is also immersed into his book. But, it’s not any book he’s reading. He’s reading an e-book. That’s when I wondered: are e-books better than regular books? (After, I also spent five minutes trying to search up how to spell e-book. Was it spelled with a dash? Was the e capitalized? Or was the b supposed to? Well, after a long mission, I found out how to spell e-book, as you can see.) This is Hibba, your weekly debating blogger, and as you might have guessed, this week’s topic is: E-books or books? And, to say straight out, I LOVE PAPER BOOKS!!! I’ve read an e-book on an e-reader before. I know what it’s like. Swiping page after page, adjusting the text size, and downloading fifty different samples of books just because you don’t want to pay for anything. I know.
