The Real Food Fight: Is Eating Meat Ethical?

Image
The media says a lot of stuff. Like, a lot. You may have recently seen the rising trend in veganism. Being vegetarian is one thing, but veganism is on a whole other level. Respect to anyone who is vegan- I go crazy without my dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets, dude! People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or simply PETA, is well-known animal rights group that supports vegetarianism and veganism. And, here’s the thing: they are literally stronger than the government. They know every single little animal-related thing. They’ve got eyes everywhere! Heck, they might be watching you through the camera on your phone. So you’re wearing a fur coat this winter, I see, you animal-killer! they must be commenting from their HQ. Or maybe even: Well, well, Ashely, thought you could get away with those mink eyelashes? Not today! With all the pro-plant-based-lifestyle articles, have you ever given a moment to actually think: “Is eating meat ethical?” Well, folks, that’s why I’m here! ...

The Great Debate of Chocolate Milk

What do you call a sweet, creamy liquid that coats your tongue in goodness? It’s chocolate milk, over course! With its great taste and silky feel, and it’s soft milk taste, balanced perfectly with that rich chocolate taste, it grabs fans of all ages. But despite all that, this drink has been stirring up some controversy in schools. (I know, right?) So, that what’s lead me to this week’s blog: should chocolate milk be served in schools? After reading the intro, it should be clear what my opinion is: YES!!! To me, chocolate milk is the best thing since sliced bread. It’s like… a miracle on Earth. It fits everything the parent of any kid wants: it’s healthy, addictive, and low in sugar. (For me, it fits everything I need: tastiness, and chocolatiness.) But chocolate milk is not viewed by some as the angel from heaven me and many others see. Nutritionists, policymakers, health officials, and parents all worry that chocolate milk is just straight-up sugar in liquid form with the w...

Tech Troubles: Society Stuck to Their Screens?

I’m sitting in between all these teenage girls, just smiling, and thinking about how many episodes of Gaspard and Lisa I’ve missed now. You might be thinking about why a 7-year-old is self-torturing herself like this. Here’s why: My parents had some family come over, and almost all of their children were adolescent girls. My mom told me to sit with these teenyboppers, help them whenever needed, and follow them. And, oh yes I did. They sit for a few moments, talking about some girl who broke up with her boyfriend. Then they ask me for the Wifi password. I’m a smart kid, so from memory, I tell them. And then they take out their phones. And for the next 2 hours, that’s what they do. And for the remaining time, and sit there and either smile, nap, play with my finger, daydream, think, or say something “cute”. That was a pretty depressing day. This little memory was brought back from lubie’s suggestion: “ur next debate should b if people spend 2 much time on their phones??” A hearty ...

The Book Format Battle: E-books or Paper Books?

When I begin to read a book at my library, I fall into a totally different world. The boy next to me is also immersed into his book. But, it’s not any book he’s reading. He’s reading an e-book. That’s when I wondered: are e-books better than regular books? (After, I also spent five minutes trying to search up how to spell e-book. Was it spelled with a dash? Was the e capitalized? Or was the b supposed to? Well, after a long mission, I found out how to spell e-book, as you can see.) This is Hibba, your weekly debating blogger, and as you might have guessed, this week’s topic is: E-books or books? And, to say straight out, I LOVE PAPER BOOKS!!! I’ve read an e-book on an e-reader before. I know what it’s like. Swiping page after page, adjusting the text size, and downloading fifty different samples of books just because you don’t want to pay for anything. I know. But I just can’t compare it to lying in bed, and reading The House At Pooh Corner . I can’t. I d...
